What is the Basura Asa Ka campaign?

The Cebu's popular Basura Asa Ka campaign is primarily an environmental awareness crusade focusing on the proper waste and garbage disposal and how to maintain the cleanliness of the environment to avoid the harsh effects of its degradation.

With this campaign comes an equally big responsibility for everyone, and the organizers want to tap raw and professional talents alike by conducting a photo contest to create and maintain the awareness against the evil-treatment of humans in our environment and from these photos, inspirations on the campaign may swell and give the people images reflecting reality.

Treating garbage well will lead us further to a more livable environment our forebears will still enjoy. And the Cebu Republic will be part of this campaign as their all-out support seems to be unstoppable.

Basura Asa Ka: Stop harming the environment!

The photo contest is the first for the organizers and they are giving away prices for the most skilled and talented among Cebu's environmental advocates.

All winning photos will be exhibited in malls and schools throughout Cebu. Mall exhibit Date: Dec. 15, 2015 - January 31, 2016

Harming the environment is tantamount to harming its people and the other species it nurtures. Be always preparing to give nature what it is due by making the environment clean and serene.

1. GRAND PRIZE - P3,000 Cash

2. TOP 10 FINALISTS – P500 worth of gift certificate

3. The Top 30 Photos will be included in photo exhibit.

4. Photographer’s name will be included in photo exhibit, winning and non-winning photos.

Be part of history, and be one in realizing that once, photography gave clean life and livable atmosphere across Cebu. All photographers in Cebu are invited to join this prestigious contest and are advised to showcase their skills and talents. Contest rules and guidelines are enumerated below:

Contest rules and guidelines:

Open to all amateur and professional photographers regardless of type of camera to be used.

Registration is FREE.

Contestants are allowed to submit maximum of 5 entries.

Photographers will pick their preferred assignment to take pictures.

Contestants will be given 10 places where the photographer will have a chance to pick one area of his/her choice. Contestant should visit Outdoors Perspective Café prior to launching of the event and pick area of his/her choice on Nov 13, 2015, Friday at 9pm.

Qualified Photos taken only at the following locations:
• Under mactan 1 and 2 bridge and with-in 20 metters both sides
• Cordova area rivers and beaches
• Talima in Olanggo Island (pls take note that this is one of the most important area coz this will show the pattern of garbage flow)
• Mandaue City - Estero or rivers leading to the sea, or any significant areas within the city which displays rampant violations of garbage disposal.
• Guadalupe river and Tabuan river
• Brgy. Tinago river and Tejero creek
• Mabolo creek and SM creek
• UC Mambaling rivers and Pasil river
• Inayawan dumpsite and Pardo river
• Pier 1.2.3 (especially during the rain, you can see so much garbage flowing form the rivers and goes directly to the sea)

Entries should be taken from Nov. 14 - Dec 5, 2015.

Entries shall be submitted as a JPG and a RAW copy to confirm no alteration of the photos with your full details (name, contact number and email address).

Submitted photos should not appear in any social networking and photo sharing sites while the contest is on-going.

Digital enhancement must be limited only to global adjustments. Watermarks are not allowed.

Deadline for submission of entries will be on Dec 5, 2015, Saturday.

Judging of the Photo Contest will be on the week following the submission deadline.

Criteria for judging:

• a) Relevance to the Theme – 50%
• b) Composition (30%)
• c) Creativity (20%)

The decision of the Board of Judges shall be FINAL and cannot be contested.

Announcement of winners will be on December 15, 2015 opening of mall photo exhibition. Winners will also be notified through text and email.

The Board of Directors and officers of Cebu Republic are not qualified from joining this contest up to the second degree of affinity.

Failure to comply with the above contest rules is enough ground for disqualification.

Cebu Republic and its officers assume no responsibility or liability for any damages, injuries, claims, causes of actions or losses of any kind arising in whole or in part from this contest.

Photographer grants to Cebu Republic the rights to exhibit the photos. However, the photographers retain the rights to their images.
