Cebu Chows: Lumpia Ngohiong’s amazing taste

Cebu Republic   August 05, 2019   Dining and Drinking

To know more about Cebu is to know more about its food. Exploring Cebu’s secret hideaways and its island paradises; be it to the north or the southern delights, Cebu offers some of the finest food on the planet. One of these all-time favorites in the island paradise is the delectable Lumpia Ngohiong or simply Ngoyong to the locals.

Ngoyong is primarily a type of spring roll made from deep-fried battered rice-paper and filled with jicama (singkamas), shredded coconut palm heart (ubod), ground pork and shrimp, onion and garlic, and seasoned with Chinese 5-spice powder. The dish is served with a spicy, sour, and sweet dipping.
Some of the best restaurants or eateries in Cebu City offering the best ngohiong is the Chinese Ngohiong (345 Junquera St., Cebu City), near USC Main Campus; Ed’s Ngohiong (Gov. Cuenco Avenue, Cebu City), across Rosedale Suites; and TJRB’s Ngohiong (Gen. Maxilom Avenue, Cebu City), across the old Sacred Heart School for boys campus, among others. Photo credit Agel Tio
