The MV Logos Hope: The World's Largest Floating Library has returned to Cebu
When she came, she conquered. Then she will return. And she will bring again trillions of words. On May 5, 2015, the MV Logos Hope, the world’s largest floating bookstore will be returning to Cebu, the Philippines’ Queen City of the South and will be docked at the Malacañang sa Sugbo. The MV Logos Hope is operated by Germany's GBA (Good Books for All), a Christian charitable organization and is the fourth ship on their operation.

The last time the MV Logos Hope was in Cebu was three years ago in 2012, it was then visited by more than 115,000 people. The floating bookshop boosts of more than 5,000 book titles at a very reasonable price. The ship would be berthed at Pier 1 when it arrive and will stay in Cebu until the 28th of May to give book lovers more time to shop for books they would surely love.
Book titles include diverse subjects ranging from sports, science, arts, medicine, various literatures, philosophy, cookbooks and many others. While the children are not left behind, books for them include dictionaries, academic texts, atlases, coloring books and many others that they will surely appreciated owing for their very low price.

Admissions are free for senior citizens and children under 13 years. Not only book shopping is offered by the MV Logos Hope, there would be also short film showing and interactive displays, ice cream (in international flavors), drinks and snacks are also up for sale. However, children should be accompanied by an adult and must show identification cards as required for security reasons. Admission fee is only P20.
The crew and staff of the vessel, numbering about 400, are volunteers coming from the different parts of the world (there are almost 60 nationalities). That is why, when you are inside the ship, you could imagine that you are travelling in different countries while staying in one place. The Logos Hope usually visits ports and staying there for two weeks. The volunteers normally join the organization to live on board for two years.

The ship will be coming from Kuching, Malaysia, where it stayed there from April 2-29 before sailing to Cebu. The Logos Hope was launched into active service since 1979 and from then on, she was in various regions such as Northern Europe, the Caribbean, the Arabian Peninsula, West Africa, the Mediterranean and most recently Southeast Asia, serving more than 44 million people for more than 30 years.
The ship will be open from Tuesday to Saturday beginning at 10 am until 9:30 pm. While on Sundays, it will be accepting visitors beginning 1 pm up to 9:30 pm.
Do you know that the current ship is twice as big as any previous ship operated by the GBA? The ship was completely modified during the last 5 years so that it would provide more quality of life for the crew and also for its visitors and guests. The newly built Logos Hope Experience, located at the deck where the previous car area (the vessel was formerly a car ferry) was installed, and can hold up to 800 people at any time and accessible to the Hope Theater and Logos Lounge where the crew introduces the vessel and its organization.

The organization offers a truly delightful experience for people who want to taste a seemingly rare opportunity to view the Logos Hope’s visual presentation of the so called “Journey of Life” which was widely based on the story of “The Prodigal Son”, before they go book shopping.
After their visit to Cebu, the Logos Hope will be sailing to Subic and La Union to give the citizens of the North the same experience. The money that would be generated from the book fair will be used to build and maintain orphanages, give academic and computer training, for support and awareness for people seeking medical attention, specially HIV victims and other charitable causes.
