Breaking: Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) is a Winner!

The first resort-inspired airport in the world, the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) Terminal 2 in Mactan, Cebu, was recently declared the winner in the 2019 World Architecture Festival (WAF) in the Completed Building: Transport Category.

The first resort-inspired airport in the world, the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) Terminal 2 in Mactan, Cebu, was recently declared the winner in the 2019 World Architecture Festival (WAF) in the Completed Building: Transport Category. The WAF is an annual festival and awards ceremony and one of the most prestigious events dedicated to the architecture and development industry. The first four events were held in Barcelona (Spain), from 2008 to 2011. The festival moved to Singapore for 4 years. Since 2016, some of the host cities included Berlin (Germany) and Amsterdam (Holland). The MCIA’s Terminal 2 was designed by multi-awarded firm Integrated Design Associates of Hong Kong with its principal Architect, Winston Shu, in partnership with world-renowned Filipino designers. According to the WAF website, the festival has more than 148 judges that represent over 68 countries. The other nominee airports were Turkey’s Istanbul Airport and Singapore’s Jewel Changi Airport.
